Appalachian Trail Communities are towns recognized by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy to provide useful resources to hikers along the trail. There are over 40 towns with the A.T. Community designation.
The Appalachian Trail Conservancy educates hikers and volunteers on how to maintain and protect the trail and the nature around it through policies and caretakers stationed along the trail.
The Appalachian Trail brings tens of thousands of people to the trail and surrounding areas which boosts economies of nearby towns while also preventing the nature from being developed.
